The ask
Driving instructors within a government agency were seeing inconsistent integration of core driving skills for trainees. As a result, instructors were required to invest additional time and effort to get trainees to the competency standard required to pass the course.
ERS was engaged to conduct a structured review, analysis and reporting process to identify performance gaps and opportunities to improve training outcomes.
Following this, ERS was engaged to deliver Instructor Professional Development to strengthen instructional capability and refine training processes.
What we did
Over a three-days, ERS conducted specialised professional development with driving instructors from across Australia, to improve instructional technique, trainee engagement and learning transfer.
Areas of focus included:
- Challenging existing training assumptions to identify root causes impacting learner integration.
- Designing training experiences to improve motivation, retention and instructor consistency.
- Applying practical methods to improve how trainees integrate learning and demonstrate competency.
The program incorporated cognitive, scientific, psychological and physical learning principles, supported by evaluation techniques to measure training effectiveness and outcomes.
What we achieved
ERS completed a comprehensive evaluation of the driving instructor program, clearly identifying areas for improvement and recommended changes to increase training efficiency and performance.
Instructors enjoyed the training and the opportunity to refresh their skills, and took multiple new learnings on board to implement.
As a result, driver training at the agency improved, becoming more effective and efficient, with an increased pass rate for students.
Results
Drivers successfully trained
National instructor representation
Improved pass rate for trainees
